wood fired heating

Wood-fired heating is carbon-neutral provided the wood used is replaced by new growth, which is normally the case.

Sophisticated wood-fired boilers and stoves are now available, often with automatic feed mechanisms and control systems. There are three types of woodfuel commonly used: pellets, logs and chips. Pellets are the most efficient fuel because they will have the lowest moisture content and can also be fed automatically in a controlled way more easily. Chip-fired systems are rare in domestic situations because of the difficulties obtaining a reliable long-term supply of fuel in the right form.

The main issues involved in installing a wood-fired system are ensuring you have a good supply of fuel and a suitable chimney or flue available. You will also need to allow storage space for fuel.

Wood-fired heating systems are likely to cost of the order of £2000-£5000. Running costs will depend on your fuel supply source.

We can provide a tailored estimate and specification for your particular needs. This will estimate the size and cost of a system for your property, and also tell you approximately how much storage space you should allow for fuel.
