condensing boilers

Condensing boilers are around 20% more efficient than regular boilers - hence their claim to be a relatively sustainable technology. They work on the simple principle of recovering as much heat as possible from the flue gases. Because the flue gases are cooler, some water condenses, hence the name.
You can get condensing boilers running on gas, oil or LPG. The extra heat exchanger can mean they cost a little more, but any difference in cost to regular boilers is usually covered by grants or local discount schemes: the government is very keen to encourage takeup of these boilers, and has now made them compulsory for most properties through building regulations.
Condensing boilers work with your existing radiators and can be fitted by any competent installer. The only day-to-day differences you should notice are a more noticeable mist or plume from the flue due to the water condensing.
