Draught proofing is an easy, cost-effective way to reduce heating bills. Because of its ease of installation and general availability, fitting draught proofing can recover its cost within 2 years. Products should conform to BS 7386 and are generally available from DIY stores.

Striking a balance between adequate ventilation and suitable draught proofing is highly important, essential if using solid fuel fires, gas fires or a boiler with an open flue. Internal doors should be draught proofed but kitchen and bathroom windows should be left to avoid condensation.

There may even be grants available to help you pay for draught proofing.
