Paul Sheridan wanted to reduce his dependence on fossil fuels and reduce his households' emissions of carbon dioxide gas. His first project five years ago was to fit a solar thermal hot water system on the roof of his 1990's Gloucestershire house. The pump for this system is run from a solar panel fitted adjacent to the solar collector.
Earlier this year he added a solar PV electric system to the roof of his house. This system produces about 1.8 kW of electricity when the sun is shining: such systems produce electricity even on cloudy days but at a reduced rate.
Paul's system is connected to the grid and he gets paid for all the electricity produced. You can find out how much electricity Paul has generated on his web site.
