The economics of the Green Deal will only work for really big organisations such as utility companies. Councils may have to team up with a national brand such as British Gas or B&Q to be take advantage of the Green Deal. But councils’ experience in dealing with tenants and long-term warranties makes them ideally placed to take advantage of Green Deal funding, which one council estimates at £1bn.
